Happy Halloween

This year Halloween, my freinds invired me to join a Halloween party at my old languge school and my freinds and I wore our costume to go to bar and nightclub together. I saw a lot of people wore their costume when they walked at street, some people's costume are cool, some people are funny, some are scare, but it was really fun to see many people's costume and experenced this Halloween event. Also I saw some Halloween decoration at my neighbour which are so interesing whole Halloween made me feel fun.

Compare with my culture, we have similar celebrating
event which named Chinese Ghost Festival. I feel our

festival is more serious because there are many inhibitions during this ghost month. In short, I like

Halloween more then Chinese Ghost Festival because it is really fun and people can wear many interesting costumes !

I went to Ruth's Chris Steak House and 69th street with Seongeun and Jane.

We just enjoyed that the thing we met and spending time together.

After we ate dinner, we went to karaoke on 69th

street. Going there with them is always exciting.

I coppied a Korean singer, Sandara Park's hair. Her hair is very unique. we called that 'palm tree hair' because it looks just like that.

Some asians recognized who I coppied. And some american took a picture with me.

Everybody commented about my hair. I felt it is little bit bother.

Originally in my country,Korea, there were nothing special things on Halloween, but these days, some young people have a party themselves.

To me, when I was in Korea, Halloween is just my mom's birthday.

I always spend time with my family that day.

It was my first time that I saw what americans are doing on Halloween day in reality.

The result is that the Holloween is really funny and exciting day.

Halloween 2010

I spent good time to experience the Halloween party in Uarts with my husband ,my friend Ziyou, and Inhye. Frankly, I didn't wear the costume of Halloween day and I felt regret it soon. The people to wear the clothes looked to have big fun. There were several diffrent kinds of Juice , snack and Pizza. Because we've already eaten dinner, we drank only juice of blood like blood punch or peach? All of them to be at the party were funny. Although Halloween party in my contry is not common, some Korean people have a halloween party in small clubs or bars. In the future, Korean to enjoy Halloween culture will be getting more increased. Anyway, I and Injib decided to enjoy more next Halloween party than this year. HaHa! ^0^

Today I met my friend Yujin in Merriam theater because to hear her play the piano.

She play the song "A child is born".

This song style is swing.

I don't know well about jazz but I feel too good.

What she played song very good.

That song's really good to hear like this weather.

She's really good pianist. I appreciate to her.

at Merriam

I went to Merriam Theater with hee jung and seong eun because of Yu jin, who lives next door in same apartment, played the piano for us. This place was located on the 7th floor only for precticing piano. She played the song 'Quite now'. This song was a kind of Jazz Ballad. She was very talented, and the performace was good. The song was kind of sad, but it had some liberal tones not just sad.
I would recommend Yu jin for other people. She is a great pianist.

Art Studio Class

This is a place is the place i go when i have a Art Studio class.

It is located at Anderson 3th floor room 309.

At this room, i make My Philly video. Blanca and April help us to make it easy. Usually, I scan my journal and photos for video and do photoshop to edit them little bit better. I come to this class once a week on Wednesday. This building make me feel like an real art student because there are many artwork on the wall and they display some in front of elevators. I hope i have more classes at Anderson building.

I went to Anderson M floor.

There is cafeteria.

I was so glad to see cafeteria, because meanwhile I didn't know.

However I went there that place closed so I was disappointed. Anyway there were many tables so I think I can take rest when I eat food. Also it would better to go in break time between my class. I wouldn't know this place if this homework was not. It was very good time!!

music event review

I went music event in my apartment, The Drake yesterday.

I went there with Seongeun.

When I came to my apartment, I heard loud music sound so I went lounge and saw their playing.

The location is 1512 Spruce st philadelphia, PA 19102.

I don't know the title what they played.

I like that performance. And I like that mood it was like a party.

The music make me feel exciting.

I willing to recommend the performance to another person, but It was not public.

It was for residents this apartment.

Today, I went to a garllery to be a volunteer. we have 5 people were being volunteers. My job is take photos for eveybady and chean up the tables.

The garllery's name so strange, I cannot remember, but it is a nice place where is can see some art works and performences. It has many amazing sculptures and paintings. So many visiters went to the garllery. I think the most impressiom thing is the performences. It is really fantastic. I saw a lot of different performences in the garllery and I also made some friends in there.

Generally speaking, I would like to go to this kind of parties. I can learn more and improve my interpersonal skills. I hope next time I can joinning this kind of parties agian.

The Phildelphia Orchestra in The Kimmel Center

I went to the Kimmel Center with my mom in June when she came America for visiting me. Because both of us are interesting in symphony amd my mom love the Philadelphia Orchestra, we decided to listen the Philadelphia Orchestra's performance.

It was my first time to go to the Kimmel Center for a performance. It was really amazing experience because the Philadelphia Orchestra's performance and the Kimmel Center both are surprising me. First, talking about the Kimmel Center,

it is located at Broad street and it is also next the main building of Uarts. The architecture of the Kimmel Center is so beautiful and fantastic. The roof is made by glasses and it makes me feel so stylish and spacious. When I walked there, I feel really peaceful mood. In the Verizon hall where I listened to the performance has really high quality equipment so you can hear sound and echo clearly and the mood is comfortable. Second,

the Phildelphia Orchestra is a great symphony band, my mom and me really enjoyed that performance and the music was really touched us. I highly recommemd the Phildelphia Orchestra and the Kimmel Center because they are amazing!

Zinc Bar in New York

I spent time in having fun in N.Y with my friend Jung In.

I went to a world music club called Zinc bar.

We could watch several brazillian band's playings there.

They showed novel arrangements with famous Jazz standard songs not using typical style.

I can't explain the style of these arrangement due to my poor English skill.

Anyway, it was very fun with my precious friend and drinking beers.

Chris' Jazz Cafe

Today night, I went to Chris' Jazz Cafe with my friends Ziyou and Ying-I.

This cafe has live music most nights. So, we enjoyed live performance of Jazz and dinner.

Everything I saw was fresh to me. because this Jazz performance is my first in Philly~

first high alchol beer~ and this is the first time I've easten Lamb shank!

(Lamb Shank is succulent braised Lamb over tuscan white been and escarde ragout with shaved parmigiano.)

My major is not jazz or music. So I can't evaluate they are performance. but! I think, live music always puts a special electricity in the air~! so, I felt they are passion and energy!!

I had good time there~ I would go this Jazz cafe again!!

Ari Hoenig trio

Have you ever been to chris's jazz cafe? if you don't go there you missed your chance.

I went to chris's jazz cafe alone. Because, Ari Hoenig who is very famous drummer came to

the cafe. location is samson and 15 street. the band has trio form. that's composition of piano, bass, drums. that's basic to jazz trio form. and the most song was composed by Ari Hoenig.

I was surprised because it was very perfect. it's rare to composed music by drummer.

general was very fantastic performance. frankly speaking, I was a shock.

His play was so really really great that's like a magic.

I could feels like listen to CD player. if like the music to some people,

must have to go to watch the Ari Hoenig trio !

Because, it's perfect.

At Merriam

I wanna recommed

a building called

Merriam in Uarts.

This building has many offices for faculties in jazz study, many indivisual practice rooms,

several ensemble rooms and a merriam theater that I like the most in there.

I saw the inside of the theater someday. The day was on Ceremony day for fresh men. I attended in the event for looking around inside of there. The theater was very elegance, huge and classic. Thus, I do like the performace hall.

As well as there are library for music and repair shop for Jazz students.

If you want to listen to a variety of music ,watch DVD and book about music.

You can use the facilities. Don't forget your ID. You need to show your I.D.card in all process.

DesignPhiladelphia

I went to DesignPhiladelphia with Seongeun.
Actually I thought that there is kind of a big exhibition.
Because a few days ago, I saw many people were going there.
But that was because of the party. And that is not exhibition I think....
When we went to there, there was empty.
There was only one guide, but there were some art works still now.
I heard that there exhibition was by industrial students.
I don't know what they want to exhibit, but I like white wall, with many letters.
It is located on near by Anderson.

Rosenwald-wolf gallery in Uarts

This week I visited Morton Bartlett's Model Children exhibition at Rosenwald-wolf gallery which at ground floor of Anderson hall on Uarts. This exhibition is using photographs to display the plaster dolls he made by himself. Morton Bartlett(1909-1992) was a sculptor and photographer, he likes to make young childern and adolescent dolls. Also, all dolls' clothes were made by Morton Bartlett.

I was really surprised when I saw this exhibition because the sculptures and clothes which dolls wear are so detail and extraordinary. Also, I like the direction which they arranged in this exhibition because the way I can see the displayed was not that complicated. This exhibition started from August 30 to October 9. If you have chance, you should go to this exhibition and you also can get free exhibition postcards.

but, after wolf gallery saw I change to my a point of view.

UATRS LIBRARY

My school library is located in Anderson Hall. this library is not big, but it include numerous art books. I think it is an amazing library where is good place can reading and relaxing.

This library is near my drom and it takes me only 5 minutes on foot. Next, the services are terrific because I do not need to wait a long time in the quene when I borrow a book is free and I can borrow a planty of art books. The first floor has many several computers. I can use them to look for some books you want according to the guide map and collects some books about music and has some CDs, DVDs, you also can borrow. In the library there are some couchs you can sit to reading and take a break.

I think, I love reading especially in the library.

UARTS ILLUSTRATION GALLERY♪

I went to uarts illustration gallery with ziyou and April.

April showed we into the gallery.

This gallery is really small but it was chock-full of solid contents.

The small gallery, so I could focus more on work.

Every single one of them was very impressive.

Some works do have an artistic inspiration for me.

Especially, Jonny Cash illustration is my most memorable work to me.

Because, I has left a deep impression his movie and his music, also I really like ink pen style painting. Finally this gallery is open gallery so if you want to see, you can always go to see and free admission...but....I cant remember...gallery name..and....floor...so..please ask for April...;;

Applebee's Review

I went to Applebee's located 215 South 15th Street, Philadelphia this week with my roommate. We went there to eat oriental chicken salad. We love it. The difference of this restaurant from Korean restaurant that i used to go in Korea is the amount of food. In Korea, i often eat the whole dish, but now i often take a box for food to take out the leftover. I think the restaurants in the U.S. usually have big dishes. That's not bad though actually good.

Anyway, it was good dinner!

I went to IHOP

I went to IHOP.

It was delicious.

The restaurant is not cheap, but we can discount with our UARTS student ID.

I usually go there. at least three times a week.

It located on 1320 Walnut St Philadelphia.

Buy the way I have to pay tip all of the Amrica's restaurants.

Even the server was not kind and service was bad.

I can't understand till now.

Because In Korea, I never thought about this situation.

Koreans are never pay tip in Korea. If the server was very very good, we gave tip.

(but that's very unusual.)

I think It's unfair.

Sometimes I don't want to pay tip for the servers.

I went to my father's business partner John family's house. They invited my family.

Their house was located on out side of Philly. Their house takes about 40minutes from downtown. The location where their house is really calm down and natural. And I really surprised!!! because I saw a deer on my way to house.

It was my first time I visited real American family's house. I felt American and Korean culture

are different. When I walked in to their house I didn't take off my shoes. Even if there floor was carpet. Korean doesn't wear shoes in the house. Their home had a swimming pool. It was really nice.

They cooked the American home food to our family. The food was delicious. It was an unforgettable experience.

My Asia restaurant experience in Pa

How often do you miss your own country food? In my case, I really often miss Chinese food but it's not easy to real Chinese food everyday here. One of my American freind, she also likes to eat Chinese food so she recommended this American-Asia restaurant to me and we went to this store yesterday.
In the beginning, when I saw the name of restaurant-Peiwei Asia Diner, my frist thought was how many countries in Asia? And how can they offer whole Asia food in one restaurant? I feel interested about this restaurant but I didn't expect they can offer Chinese taste food to me because this is a American-Asia restaurant! After I entered this Store, I found they just only offer fine styles Asia food- Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, and Vietnamese. Then I ordered one beef Lo main which totally changed my mind! It tasted good and really closed myfavorite Lo main taste in my country. I start to love this store!

During whole dinner time, I also found one thing interesting me was they use Chinese woks tp devorate their store in order to meke customers feel the style about Asia. In fact, I never seen restaurants use woks to decorate in my country. It was really interesting to me and I had good time there. I would go this restaurant again.
